Bush signed into law the United States Global Leadership Against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Reauthorization Act (H.R.5501/S.2731). The bill includes a provision that repeals the HIV travel/immigration ban by amending the current health-related ground of inadmissibility in the Immigration and Nationality Act to exclude any reference to HIV. This provision returns the authority to the Department of Health and Human Services to determine whether individuals with HIV should be permitted to travel to the US. http://indiapost.com/article/immigration/3635

McCain supporters: What’s John McCain’s stance on education?

Posted on 16 August 2008

All talk: “I believe the government plays an essential role in addressing poverty. We must ensure that government policies promote freedom, opportunity and prosperity for all Americans. For example, among the most important determinants of economic well-being is educational attainment. The statistics are undeniable; if you can get a decent education, you can free yourself from the threat of poverty. This is why we all should agree that a quality education is the right of every child and the responsibility of every parent, teacher and school. Furthermore, I believe that government can improve the education system by establishing standards for accountability and performance in schools, fostering competition in the current education monopoly by allowing parents to choose the school that can best educate their child, and fighting the rising tide of high school dropouts.” No Action: McCAIN OPPOSED EFFORTS TO INCREASE ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION McCain Opposed Efforts to Increase Aid and Improve Access to Higher Education. McCain consistently has voted against improving access to college through student aid and better loan conditions. He opposed increasing Pell Grants and restoring cuts to student aid while supporting restricted eligibility for student aid. (S.Amdt. 1602 to H.R. 2660, Vote 339, 9/10/03; H.C.R. 95, Vote 114, 4/28/2005; S.Amdt. 1602 to H.R. 2660, Vote 339, 9/10/03) McCain Voted Against the College Cost Reduction and Access Act. McCain voted against the College Cost Reduction and Access Act, which increased access to Pell Grants, lowered interest rates for Stafford loans, provided funding for Upward Bound programs and provided grants for people entering the teaching profession. The bill helped increase access to higher education for middle class and low-income families by defraying some of the costs that prevent them from continuing their education. (H.R. 2669, Vote 272, 7/20/07) McCAIN HAS NOT SUPPORTED EDUCATORS McCain Opposed Measures to Reduce Class Size. Even though research shows that reducing the number of students in a class is one of the best ways to improve achievement, McCain voted against a measure that would have helped reduce class sizes across the country by authorizing funds to help local school districts recruit, hire and train 100,000 new teachers. (S. 280, Vote 41, 3/3/99) McCain Voted Against Funding for Teacher Quality Programs. McCain voted against additional funding for teacher quality programs, Mathematics and Science Partnerships and school leadership programs under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and the Higher Education Act of 1965. (S.Amdt. 1613 to S.Amdt. 1542 to H.R. 2660, Vote 343, 9/10/03) McCain… is he all talk?

If Obama could get an attack ad right, would there be more of them?

Posted on 14 August 2008

http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/08/09/politics/horserace/entry4335314.shtml Obama was quick to pull this ad after he realized he voted for the same exact thing as McCain! It’s also worthy to note the image of Monument Valley at the end Obama’s attack ad which is actually in UTAH! In 2005, Barack Obama Voted Twice To Fund The Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository. “Passage of the bill that would provide $31.2 billion in fiscal 2006 for energy and water development projects, including $5.3 billion for the Army Corps of Engineers and $25 billion for the Energy Department. It also would provide $577 million for the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository.” (H.R. 2419, CQ Vote #172: Passed 92-3: R 50-3; D 41-0; I 1-0, 7/1/05, Obama Voted Yea; H.R. 2419, CQ Vote #321: Adopted 84-4: R 48-2; D 35-2; I 1-0, 11/14/05, Obama Voted Yea)

investigate Joe Lieberman? What’s up with this? http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=8978 In the wake of Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) and Susan Collins’ (R-ME) alarmist report, “Violent Islamist Extremism, the Internet, and the Homegrown Terrorism Threat,” the Senate may be moving towards passage of the Orwellian “Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007″ (S. 1959). A companion piece of legislative flotsam to the House bill, “The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007″ (H.R. 1955), the Democrat-controlled Congress seems ready to jettison Constitutional guarantees of free speech and assembly. The bill passed the House by a 404-6 vote in October. Twenty-three congress members abstained, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers. Under cover of studying “violent radicalization,” both bills would broaden the already-fluid definition of “terrorism” to encompass political activity and protest by dissident groups, effectively criminalizing civil disobedience and non-violent direct action by developing policies for “prevention, disruption and mitigation.” “Senate Moves forward on Orwellian ‘Violent Radicalization & Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act’” Tom Burghart You people DO realize that this includes everyone on Yahoo, including you neocons who advocate the erosion of our constitutional rights? Greg Palast, please check this out…I’ll help with the research! Greg Palast: http://www.gregpalast.com/

What are the odds that H.R. 500: Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007 will ever make it out of committee?

Posted on 31 July 2008

Proponents argue that the only way to curb deficit spending is to penalize Congress personally and financially for running over budget. Currently, the government can either tax for additional spending revenue or borrow. This bill would cut off the “borrow” option and force them to tax us for anything they spend money on, and to make hard choices about spending cuts. From the Congressional Research Service, a nonpartisan arm of the Library of Congress: Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007 - Provides that, if there is a deficit in a fiscal year, then: (1) any pay adjustment (including a cost of living adjustment) for Members of Congress scheduled to take effect in the succeeding calendar year shall be null and void; and (2) rates of pay for Members shall be reduced by a specified percentage, but not below zero. Specifies the mandatory pay rate reduction at: (1) 5%, for the first year; or (2) 10%, for any consecutive subsequent year that expenditures exceed revenues. (Continued)
Specifies conditions for restoration of the original pay rate, together with otherwise scheduled adjustments. Vests authority in the Director of the Congressional Budget Office to make determinations of whether or not a deficit exists in any fiscal year. States that, in making any such determination, the Director shall exclude any budget outlays which directly relate to a military conflict that lasts over 30 days or that is in direct response to a terrorist attack on the United States.

Is Bill O’Reily against the Bill of Rights?

Posted on 24 July 2008

Answer after you have read H. R. 1955 and S. 1959

do you want a bailout that provides more funds for La Raza and ACORN?

Posted on 24 July 2008

The U.S. Congress is about to vote on H. R. 3221, the Housing Bailout legislation. Just discovered today, is that this legislation will funnel MILLIONS more of our tax dollars to La Raza and ACORN, two far left organizations above what the federal government already gives them. The Democrats have structured the legislation so that the provision to give La Raza and ACORN your money cannot be stripped from the legislation. so once again a relative good bill is tainted by their amendments. De we really want our tax money to fund groups that would detest America and that will favor of their far left vision for America. Check out La Raza and Acorn for their history and their political views and then decided, if you think it is not what you want to spend your tax money, you need to let your congressmen know your views. act soon before it gets passed and we are taken for more MILLIONS.
i just called my congressmen and they are both voting against it..it is sad the dems tacked on their give aways and those who need it might not get it. call today if you want to make a difference or they might win.
jolyth_a: you are so right. i have researched obama’s connection to ACORN and their support for him. they have been charged with voter fraud in several states…fine liberal activist huh!
high plains rider…good, that is what it takes. the silent majority needs to speak up maybe we can overpower the screamers and whinners before it is too late.
